I just can’t get it up!
“This has never happened to me before………..honest!”
The jet stream over the atlantic has been largely responsible for the absence of anything but rain and dark skies since the end of last year. I’ve seen one day of sunshine (a sunday ironically) in 2026, and it’s taken a huge toll on my workload. This last fortnight has also seen me fall foul of a particularly vicious respiratory virus which seemingly faded away then resurfaced immediately even worse than before. If I’d had a load of jobs I’d probably be in a right physical state to be honest, so the downturn has been a blessing.
The constant awful weather conditions has meant a reliance on fake blue skies, postponement of certain jobs which need a degree of brightness, and the grounding of my DJI Mini drone. Putting a drone in the air when it’s raining and windy is sometimes possible, but highly non-recommended. Losing a £600 bit of gear isn’t on my lists of things to do in 2026.
A lot of my basic real estate jobs are being shot using my low-light method - comprising of a natural light exposure of anything between 1 and 20 seconds, a flash frame at 1/4 sec, and another flash frame with the interior lights on. All 3 frames are blended to produce a light and bright final product that looks as if it was shot in the summer. Exteriors are looking soggy and drab, so there’s not much that can be done with those. This grim weather is set to continue for at least another week, so it’s just a case of getting on with things for now.
