UK Garage
In the nearby village of Felton, a couple of minutes east of the arterial A1, there is a disused garage sitting derelict. It used to be a thriving local repair workshop, with some ancient petrol & diesel pumps out front, but was closed a few years ago. I always thought it would make a nice subject for some artistic-style close ups, but soon after closing, the area directly outside became a place to park old vehicles, display advertising hoardings, and so on. Until recently.
Perhaps the place has been bought (as land, not a going concern), and is being cleared ready for demolition, or perhaps it was just luck, but I passed a few days ago, and noticed the front was clear apart from an advertising hoarding frame. Time to put the colour and dynamic range of my hasselblad to good effect.
On my way home from a job, the exterior was bathed in nice sunshine, so I parked up and got the camera out of the boot.
I really wanted to shoot the entire garage as it has an interesting shape from the front. Perhaps the big frame will be removed at some point. I suspect it’s there to discourage people dumping big things. In the meantime, it was nice to put the huge raw files through the Phocus software to see what I could get out of them. I shot these at ISO 100 at f8 using a shutter speed of 1/125th sec. The originals are in the 4×3 format, and I cropped most of them to square so they could be fitted into a triptych later on.
