The Longest Month

January is generally a tough one for all but the richest folks, but especially as a self employed dude in a highly seasonal business. It feels like it’s coming up to January the 87th, and the year of our dark lord 2026 hasn’t exactly started with a bang. I’m looking at a 70% decrease on last January’s revenue figure, which couldn’t come at a worse time with tax and vat payments due, all my annual subscriptions from Adobe, my website provider, and various software suppliers hitting my account all at the same time.

The property market seems to have suddenly hit the brakes, so it’s a case of digging into savings in order to pay the bills - and myself. It’s not entirely unexpected, but it most definitely gives you the willies for a month or two until the spring upturn starts kicking in.

I’ve got time to do some long-overdue housekeeping tasks like clearing out my gear cupboard, getting rid of unused kit, finishing off my marketing material, and setting up some more automated tasks in Photoshop and Premiere Pro.

Keep the faith.
