Naughty Boy.

It finally happened after 30 years. It had to happen eventually. Everybody does it at some point. We’re all naughty….

I got nabbed speeding.

There’s no excuse, and I take full responsibility, but the circumstances are really annoying. In late August, I had some jobs in Northumberland on a Friday, which were small, and spaced apart. Unfortunately, it meant I had to get onto the A1 single carriageway section on multiple occasions to travel a mile or so, then turn off somewhere. Every time I reached the A1 junction, the holiday traffic was at a standstill. The road between two capital cities is strangled for months in Northumberland because of a complete lack of investment in the area. Nowhere else in the country would be allowed to suffer in this way.

I had six occasions where I had to join that crawling procession of tractors, lorries, buses, caravans, and “SUV’s” packed with families heading north and south in order to travel the mile to the next junction. My last leg of the tortuous journey was a bit longer, and led to the section of road where it becomes dual carriageway again. At this point I could see way into the distance, so I started to overtake the mass of vehicles. My frustration transmitted directly to my right foot, and with the help of a 530 bhp electric car, I quickly accelerated in the offside lane. Before I knew it, a speed-detector van in one of the most tactically located spots in the north east flashed into view. I was recorded at 82mph in a 70mph zone. Bollocks.

My lease company advised me (obviously after charging me for the letter - bastards), and after a failed attempt to get my confirmation back to the police, and having to pay £7 to send a second confirmation, I was given the usual option of the 3 points plus fine or a speed awareness course. I took the latter via an in-person session, It’s due on the 1st December.

It’s going to be a bit “teach your gran how to suck eggs”, but it’s happened. I’m a hater of speeders - I see nutters going past me on all types of roads, every minute of every single day at velocities that scare me. I know the dangers of going too fast, and I’m always careful to stay within the limits, but the frustration just beat me this time. My fault.

Anyway, I’ll take my schooling, and learn from it.
