Across the Ocean.
My blog is basically a portal in which to vent my spleen a bit. I don’t actively market to the general public, or do scattergun approaches to every property-based business out there - that always results in enquiries from various bodies looking for freebies or “deals” - which always results in disappointment for everyone concerned. It’s about word of mouth now, and my website is simply a portal for showing what I do. The blog gets a small number of visits every month - usually less than a hundred, and I recently delved into the analytics provided by my provider - Squarespce - who do a great job overall to be honest.
The figures were interesting. There’s statistics on visitor numbers to the site in general, visitors to each page, details of the search terms used, and visitor browser details. The geographical location of visitors were also available.
The stats from that last one weren’t particularly surprising. People assume that everyone going to a website are directed there from a search engine or maybe directly after being given a business card or referral. In fact, around two thirds of all visitors are from Chinese sources - suggesting bots or similar nefarious agencies are trawling regularly for email addresses or similar information relating to spam or scams. The USA is next, then the UK.
In summary, nobody is looking at this website much, which is fine - as I said, it’s more of a simple and necessary exhibition space, with a blog dedicated to a cathartic rant now and then. True staunch pro’s will probably criticise this approach - favouring long and boring gear reviews/boring technique descriptions etc, but hey-ho as Grumpy once sang.
