Cheviot View

My camping playground is the Cheviot Hills in North Northumberland. I’ve not been able to get out recently due mainly to work commitments, and having to play second fiddle to everyone else in the house - I’m a kid’s taxi service basically.

I was sent out to the hamlet of Doddington, which lies a few miles east of the border town of Wooler - gateway to The Cheviots. The drive took me up the A1, and then cross country. near my destination, I drove over the crest of a hill, and was suddenly greeted by a spectacular vista - the entire eastern range of the Cheviot hills laid out in front of me. The aptly-named Cheviot View appeared to my left, so I parked up outside and headed in.

It was a smallish bungalow, with probably the most wonderful views of any house I’ve ever done (in my opinion anyway). You can keep your Durham Cathedral, Seahouses harbour, Newcastle Quayside etc - I wouldn’t get bored with this view.

The weather was getting better as time progressed, so I decided to shoot interiors first. Nothing spectacular. The house has some potential to be upgraded within, and there may be room for limited expansion outside. Capturing the view from the conservatory was important, so I was careful to frame it properly through the window panes.

Doing the exteriors took some time. I shot the vista with different focal length, and positions, and walked up into the field to shoot the house from a distance as well. The drone went up to get the whole picture, and the only annoyance was a fairly big house a couple of hundred yards down the road which was a bit of a distraction.

I could see, Hedgehope Hill, The Cheviot, Humbleton Hill, Easter Tor, Wester Tor, and Cold Law all laid out in front of me. Wonderful stuff.
