The Power of Gravity
The Gravity Show at Birmingham NEC is a gargantuan event geared towards thousands of car-wankers sporting black T-shirts with stupid logos, neck beards, and annoying souped-up small vehicles with modifications designed to give the impression that they are rally driving experts, when in fact they only speed up and down the A4279 or wherever once the sun begins to set.
In fairness, there were plenty of normal people there too, and if you had even a passing interest in supercars it was a spectacular exhibition of such vehicles. My youngest had a recognition and knowledge of every single one of the hundreds of vehicles on show, so it provided him with a glut of photo opportunities for his Snapchat storylines. He’s not got any stored photos, as he shoots everything on an iPhone using the Snapchat app which deletes everything the next day.
The “influencers” were out in force of course - everywhere you go now, there’s some kid with a video rig desparately trying to make “content” for likes and views. Getting pictures of cars was a test of patience due to crowds of people piling in to do exactly what you were trying to do yourself.
I took my Nikon D850 and a 24-70mm lens for the first day, but quickly bagged it and reverted to iPhone capture as usual. Shooting at iso 1600 was essential as although the enormous exhibition hall was lit by huge spotlights, it was still a dark venue. Some detail shots follow:
Anyway, it was a pleasant weekend, and I got to spend some quality time with my youngest - even if he stayed hidden in the back of the car for the entire return journey, and remained stuck to a phone screen whenever there wasn’t the vital need for some sort of interaction. I did buy some sky blue tyre valve caps which look nice on the new car so all is good.
