My old website/ email domain has become a safe haven for spammers to the extent that it’s crushing my spirit.
recently, my legacy inbound email address has been absolutely swamped by those “You Pervert… we recorded you!” messages that threaten to send videos of me “tommy tanking” to all my contacts unless I pay them a huge amount of money in bitcoin. My family must be completely sick of me publicly unburdening myself of bodily fluids in our dining room at all times of the day by now given the amount of threats I’ve had - messages literally every two minutes, 24 hours a day on top of the requests to: improve my website SEO, sell me diet pills, unblock bank accounts I’ve never had by entering my login details, and a myriad of other total bollocks. I need the email address as it’s required for some of my old logins, and as a forward to my website for legacy clients who get in touch now and then.
On top of that, the address is being used as a “reply-to” by spammers sending billions of junk messages outwards - so it appears to have come from me. That’s causing servers everywhere to put me on blacklists so my emails to clients are being deleted before they’re seen by the intended recipient.
It’s just ridiculous. Are these spammers making money from all this? They just cause misery and massive inconvenience. Over the winter I’ll try and remove the old email address from anywhere it still exists, and switch to a dedicated IP address and VPN to reduce or eliminate the risks.
