Rainy Days.

I had a nice job booked in today - a five-bedroom mini mansion in coastal County Durham. It had been shot originally by an in-house photographer, and the subsequent results were rejected by the homeowners who rightly deserve excellence rather than mediocrity given the supposed five-figure fees being charged for marketing their luxury property to the right buyers. I was asked to reshoot the place with some social media video and aerial work included, so I fixed an early morning time today.

I woke at 6 a.m. to find the most grim weather conditions imaginable for a summer’s day - thick cloud, rain, and just general grey bleurghh. Doing a two-bed flat or terraced house is easy in these conditions, and by using exposure creatively I can easily do a good job of making an interior look as if it was shot in sunny conditions, but with glass-fronted properties with tri-fold kitchen doors leading out to a big garden, it becomes impossible. That’s when common sense has to kick in, and postponement becomes the key word.

I advised against battling on, and we postponed the shoot for a couple of days to let the gloom disappear. This meant that my day was freed up to catch up with accounts, blog entries, checking equipment, and all sorts of boring but essential tasks. I contacted my main local client to see if there were any empty properties that could be brought forward to today, but a free day is always welcome in order to just take a beat.
