Further off a Cliff

I’ve not had a dry spell like this since I started in the property photography game. 2024 has so far been my busiest year since turning pro in 2004, but these last few weeks have seen my revenue fall to zero in a really short space of time. For those people in jobs, try to imagine working all year and relying on your monthly salary being paid at the end of the month without fail, then in December it simply doesn’t appear. At the same time your office doors shut and there’s no reply when you try and call in to find out what’s going on. That’s self employment in a nutshell - a zero hours contract (without any contract) where you have no rights, no sick pay, no holidays, and no pension.

The property sales industry has just stopped dead. This usually happens over the Christmas period, but this year it’s happened a month early. I’m taking advantage of the void by selling unused gear, catching up on marketing, practicing workflows, and getting fit through lengthy walks and wild camping trips. The latter has changed my life, and I’ve committed to getting a camp in during every calendar month. My November effort resulted in an overnighter in a frozen tent with my boy after we ran out of light and pitched on the side of a stream in the wilderness of the Moffat Hills. Great stuff if you have the kit needed to survive sub-zero temperatures (which we do.)

Moving forward, I’m sure that it’s going to be a 2025 of change and positive progress.

It’s going to be ok.
