Insta Bloody Gram
It’s time to do a bit of marketing once more. as mentioned previously on many occasions, my time with the established chain of estate agents I used to devote myself to is all but finished leaving a bit of a financial black hole to fill with something meaningful. There’s no danger, but it’s nice to be busy - especially in the quieter months of the year.
I’m really not looking to fill my days with small jobs, competing with literally thousands of amateurs looking for a “side-hustle” (as suggested by AI browsers when asked how to make some extra cash). I’m also not looking to steal work from existing and established professionals who have worked with firms for years. I’ve got too much guilt for that sort of thing. My aim is to position myself as a “go-to” for prestige clients looking for guaranteed pro results, and perhaps act as a stand-in for those times when people are on holiday etc. Having someone who will stand in for you without the threat of taking all of your work full-time is something I’ve never had - hence the lack of any holidays for the last 20 years. I’m happy with occasional work from various clients as I have absolutely no intention of working 80 hour weeks again in my lifetime.
So - back to marketing. I’m not an aggressive sales guy. There are some proper cowboys out there who would sell their family to get a gig, and they undercut everybody else by cramming cheap jobs and even cheaper results into the day. I can’t be doing with all that, so my focus will be on two approaches: Instagram and high-end brochures.
I’m currently populating my old Instagram account with stills and video of high-end work completed in the last year or so. Once I’ve got a good 250 posts and reels out there with relevant tags, I can start to let it filter out to clients I’m following. It may be a complete waste of time as Instagram seems to be having a downturn in popularity among businesses as it’s now almost saturated with young lasses shaking their backsides in order to attract dirty old men to their Only Fans sites. Tell me I’m wrong.
I’m currently designing some classy brochures for classy clients also. I’ve tried something similar before and it didn’t work, but it’s worth a try. Got to aim high.
